Tis The Season To: CHECK OUT HUNGER!

Since I started working for Feeding America, Kentucky’s Heartland, I have found that most people want to and are willing to help; most of them just don’t know how or when or where.  Well, I’m going to share with everyone a few options:

  • Conduct a food drive, either within your company for the employees or with your customers.
  • Volunteer your time at your local volunteer center.  For those of you with children/families, volunteering your time before or after work and between practices and recitals may prove to be impossible.
  • Make a charitable financial contribution to any hunger-relief program either as an individual or group/organization.
  • Check out Hunger!  There are these small pull tab displays in the checkout lanes (just above the candy and gum) at Kroger that you can pull off and hand to the cashier and he/she will add the amount shown on the tab ($1.00, $2.00 or $5.00) to your final grocery bill. The proceeds from these tabs go to Feeding America, Kentucky’s Heartland so that we can purchase food for those in need.  This is a very easy way to help and it doesn’t take up any of your personal time and doesn’t require you to organize any type of food drive.

Because I personally overlooked them so many times, I took a picture of one of these displays so that everyone would know what to look for.  Thank you for letting me share a few ideas on how to help your community.  – Angie Lile, Development Assistant

Let's Work Together!

Hey everyone……..as you know school is back in and the BackPack Program is in full swing. Our volunteers are packing approximately 5000 sacks a week to go to children, in 33 counties, who are at risk of going hungry on weekends.  As of September 25, 2012 we have approx. 4200 of the 5000 children adopted but we still need your help to get these remaining 800 children adopted.
Get your co-workers together to chip in $5.00 or $10.00 each, get your Sunday school class involved, get the local schools involved. Let’s make sure all of these children get adopted. Let’s make sure that NO child goes hungry. With your help we can do this!!!!!!
